I recently bought some of these IR LED rings on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/180582166904 The list says they need 12 volts, so I have a 12V 500mA power and welded together, they work well, just to work, however, the board that the lights are on becomes extremely hot when in a short period of time (less than 5 minutes) I was wondering if 500mA current is too much or not enough? There are 30 LEDs on the board, the hottest of the Committee are 3 transistors. I intended to mount the card the camera using hot glue, but it will simply melt glue. Specifically, I’m wanting to replace the lamps in a vintage receiver. The original bulbs are 8v 300ma lamps, while the fuse-style LEDs I’ve found are rated at 12v, and are designed for auto interior lights.
If it’s a tube receiver make sure the lamps aren’t part of the heater circuit. If they are you are going to have to replace them with an equivalent resistance and find another source of power in the receiver to power your LEDs. Festoon auto LEDs running at 75% voltage are probably going to be fairly dim and you should consider separate LEDs with resistors instead.
